Profile: Dragonfly draws on beliefs and values that are the pinnacle of all that is foul and loathsome of the Decepticons: lust for power, belief in one's superiority over all else, and absolute aggression toward those would would dare act in dispute. It's not hard to fathom where the evil in Dragonfly was conceived if you know anything about his background: Prometheus cloned him based on retrieved scans of Waspinator during the brief period in the Beast Wars in which the dunderheaded Predacon lackey was possessed by the spark of Starscream, the legendary Decepticon warrior and someone whom Prometheus knew rather well in a past life. Unlike Waspinator, Dragonfly has brains and brawn to match. And Dragonfly is keenly aware of this, just as he is aware that any attempt to subvert Prometheus' wishes to fulfill his own could very easily put him on the wrong end of an Energon axe, so Dragonfly has resigned himself to Prometheus' service without complaint or hesitation. This makes it all the more terrifying for one to consider what Dragonfly were capable of if he DID call the shots: with his Transmetal Triplechanger form this Decepticon can reduce entire city-states to blazing ruins in mere seconds, and that's just under Prometheus' command. Dragonfly knows the value of patience, and always keeps a keen optic and an attentive neural processor on any given situation, learning, remembering. He is as much a valued confidant to Prometheus as Strain, and no one can deny that the two underlings share a fair bit of rivalry, though unlike that Strain harbors for Overpass, the competitive nature shared by Strain and Dragonfly is more grounded in mutual respect and overall commitment to their master's agenda. True, each one sees themselves as the only logical successor to Prometheus should he fall, and woe be to anyone else who dares usurp the mantle, but apart from Prometheus, Dragonfly is the only other Decepticon in the group's ranks that Strain regards as being worthy of her time. Likewise, Dragonfly must do his best to hide his own admiration for Strain's abilities and skills. He knows that whatever emotions he may possess with regard to Strain, he cannot let them affect his spark too deeply. To this end, he prides himself on being the most fear-inducing of all of Prometheus' minions, holding back fire on no victim no matter how weak or defenseless, and he focuses all his energies in combat against Jaw Crusher's Dozen on blasting the rogue Sharkbot and his Minibot compatriots into atoms. He often will strafe Crusher repeatedly when the Sharkbot utilizes his reconditioned Actionmaster truck, the Warlock, hoping to goad him into activating the vehicle's shuttlecraft mode in order to facilitate a truly epic confrontation between two avians. Dragonfly has yet to see this desire fulfilled, but is confident that he'll be the one still flying when it's all over.

Abilities: As the result of an anomaly that existed in the scans of Waspinator's protoform during Starscream's control over it, Dragonfly possesses an armored wasp-like body with the ability to change into both a meched-out wasp creature and a super-powered jet fighter. Dragonfly possesses far greater speed and maneuverability than Waspinator in any one of his three modes, and is also armed with a powerful stinger weapon that fires an agitated corrosive agent that can reduce a Minibot to a molten blob at maximum setting. He also has the ability to fly even in robot mode.

Weaknesses: Dragonfly still has some difficulty alternating between his three modes, and this can cause system errors that can impact his combat performance if he's not careful. The corrosive stinger blaster also tends to overheat and can be dangerous to its user, as this has caused tiny leaks in the casing in past incidents. Dragonfly likes to tout the subsequent scars as having been received in battle from the most daring of opponents, but Prometheus and Strain know better; they just like to humor him.

My twenty-first TF repaint, and a day late, I admit, but hey, I've been cranking out one after the other; it was bound to catch up on me sometime. This one is based on the Transmetal version of BW Waspinator, a variation on the character that was not seen on the show. However, it was one of the very first BW figures I ever got, and given the character's own connection to Starscream I thought it would fit in nicely as a design utilized by one of Prometheus' cloned lackeys.
