Manning And Livewire

This newest Superman model sheet scrawl of mine depicts Toby Manning and Leslie Willis. Manning is otherwise known as Terra-Man to most - the pegasus-riding, gun-toting Old Westernish eco-maniac convinced that extraterrestrials are a threat to the environmental sanctity of the Earth. In this case, however, I stuck with the design I have stored in my Scraps gallery from lower-tier Superman villains I redesigned as possible foes for a grown-up Jason White.

Now for Ms. Willis, things didn't go quite as smoothly. I couldn't come up with anything that pleased me and still evoked Livewire's appearance as seen in S:TAS. I initially veered toward more a goth-punkette-type design but couldn't get it to work in a way that was flashy enough to represent Livewire and be distant enough from what Leslie Willis looked like prior to being shocked out of her marbles. Then I veered the design into a more 'retro' direction, sort of a kitschy quasi-'50s space-chick motif (this probably brought on by the fact that I've been watching "Forbidden Planet" and "The Thing From Another World" this past weekend), as if someone as young as Leslie Willis could only imagine that kind of fashion taste when thinking of how a supervillainess should dress.
